Smoking at the Intersections of Race/Ethnicity and Sexual Orientation

Abstract Research has tended to document smoking disparities separately by race/ethnicity and sexual orientation, with relatively less work examining the intersections of both identities. As such, we draw on data from 2010 Social Justice Sexuality Project demonstrate how cigarette manifest across detailed orientation among a sample U.S. adults. Findings logistic regression models that adjust for demographic, socioeconomic, social support confounders groups reveal risk current tends distribute multiplicatively identity groups. For example, findings show racial/ethnic minority adults do not have equally lower likelihood compared white heterosexual Furthermore, while generally higher relative their counterparts, levels are uniformly shared but instead critically shaped race/ethnicity. Overall, results underscore need consider within- between-group differences in assessments health inequities categories.
